Alexis A. Tioseco |
Alexis A. Tioseco was a film critic, curator and lecturer from the Philippines. He regularly contributed to its oldest weekly magazine, The Philippines Free Press and had his articles on cinema published internationally in publications such as Cahiers du Cinema, Sight & Sound and Cinema Scope.
In 2005 he founded Criticine, an online journal dedicated to encouraging intelligent discourse on Southeast Asian cinema. Alexis and his partner, the Slovenian film writer and programmer Nika Bohinc, were killed in their Manila home on September 1, 2009. An intelligent and gentle man, Alexis will long be remembered by his many friends and admirers around the world for his passionate championing of independent Filipino and Southeast Asian cinema.
